PPal IconThe main data entry screen will allow you to enter the patient information and test information associated with an accession number.

Enter data in each field separated by an ENTER. Hitting ENTER on a blank test field prompt will check and save your data, print the label and clear the form for the next patient.

Below is a more detailed description of the tools and function of this screen.

Toolbar
New Patient
The New Patient tool will allow you to clear the form and increment the accession number by 1. If the button is inactive there is data on the form that needs to be saved. Click save to save or cancel to dump any changes you've made. This tool can also be activated by pressing F5 when active.

Abort
The Abort or Cancel tool allows you to cancel any changes you've made to the patient information. If the button is inactive there has not been any new data entered. This tool can also be activated by pressing F6 when active.

Save
The Save button allows you to save any changes you made to the data. If the button is inactive there has not been any new data entered since your last save. This tool can also be activated by pressing F7 when active.

Print
The Print button will print the label. If the button is inactive the data has been modified and needs to be saved or canceled before printing. This tool can also be activated by pressing F8 when active.

Previous
The Previous button will allow you to scroll through previously entered patients. Edit or print as desired. Use NEW to begin entry on a new patient.

Next
The Next tool will allow you to scroll through patient data. Used in conjuction with Previous (see above)

Data Entry
Enter the information followed by a RETURN or TAB. RETURN or TAB will advance the cursor to the next available field. SHIFT TAB will regress the cursor to a previous field.

Field Specifics
LAST NAME: Enter the last name of the patient and press RETURN or TAB

FIRST NAME: Enter the first name of the patient and press RETURN or TAB

GENDER: Press M for Male of F for Female and press RETURN or TAB

ID: Enter the primary ID for this patient (MRN, PID, SSN etc)

DOB: Enter the birthdate in the format MMDDYY or M/D/Y. If the date you enter is valid, the program will format it to MM/DD/YYYY upon exit of the field.

Location: Enter the patient location code as entered in the LIS

Collection Date: Enter the collection date in the same format as the DOB above.

Collection Time: Enter the collection time in the format HHMM.

Receive Date: Enter the receive date in the same foramt as the collection and birthdates described above

Receive Time: Enter the receive time in the format HHMM. Upon exiting this field, the program will check the validity of all fields entered and save the record to the database.

Tests: Enter the test codes used by your LIS. Tests may be grouped together on the same label by separating them with a comma (,). When finished, press ENTER. The test you entered will drop down to the ordered tests area. Press ENTER on an empty line to save and print your changes.

Ordered Tests: The ordered tests area lists the information entered from the Tests area. Tests that are on separate lines in this area will print on separate labels. Tests may be deleted from this area by selecting the test and hitting any key. The program will ask if the code should be deleted. Selecting YES will delete the test from the ordered tests area.

Any changes to this field or the Tests field will automatically be saved to the database.
