Specimen Cache offers some optional setup to help make specimen entry more efficient. These are:
- Coded Commands
- Coded Comments
Setting up Coded Commands
Coded commands allows for bar codes to be assigned to navigation commands on the Entry Screen. This eliminates the need interrupt the work flow by reaching for the keyboard or mouse. A bar code will be assigned each command available in the system. Reading of the bar code will perform the corresponding navigation during specimen entry.
The available commands during specimen entry are:
- "Close Rack" - Close and save the rack
- "Up" - Move to the previous space in the rack
- "Down" - Move to the next space in the rack
- "Next Open" -Move to the next available space in the rack
- "Remove" - Delete the specimen from the rack
- "Empty Rack" - Empty the rack (Remove all specimens)
To create your coded commands, perform the following:
- Click on Commands on the Home Screen, this will take you to the Command Admin. Screen.
- Assign each command a bar code
- Enter the bar code for each corresponding command into the Code field
- Click Save
Each command that has been updated will now be available during specimen entry.
Setting up Coded Comments
Coded comments allow information to be added to a specimen using the bar code scanner. This eliminates the need interrupt the work flow by reaching for the keyboard or mouse. A bar code will be assigned to canned-text commonly used during specimen entry. Reading of the bar code will place this text into the corresponding field for the active specimen.
There are three types of coded comments:
- Specimen Type
- Specimen Volume
- Comment
To create your coded comments, perform the following:
- Determine what comments are needed for your organization from each category
- Assign each comment a bar code
- Click on Comments on the Home Screen, this will take you to the Comment Admin Screen.
- Click on Add Canned Comment
- Enter the information for the comment you are creating
- Use the output of the bar code in the Code field.
- Click Save
Each comment that has been created will now be available during specimen entry.
